Time To Switch

June 28, 2013

this!

Google Reader is retiring on July 1st. Yes, I know. It's sad. So I just wanted to give all of you an update...if you follow Mode Vintage via Google Reader, and you like what you are following, than you may want to switch to Bloglovin or my RSS feed. Both are free services to help you keep up with my crazy antics over here.

Look at me sounding like a tech geek. I'll be accepting applause right about now please. Or you could just throw money, which would be about 100% better.

Feeling Floral

June 27, 2013

Blog Post: Feeling Floral

1. J. Crew shirt | 2. Fossil necklace | 3. Michael Kors skirt | 4. Reiss shoes | 5. Baublebar bracelet

As I was working on this post, I had a rare bit of doubt. I was unsure about whether or not I could put stripes and florals in the same outfit. But after much thought and deliberation, I finally threw caution to the wind and decided to go with it.

It actually works in some weird way. But most things are strange in one way or another.

What say you? Would you wear it?

Pillow Talk

June 26, 2013

Blog Post: Pillow Talk

1. Pier 1 pillow | 2. Oeuf NYC pillow | 3. Layla Grayce pillow | 4. Jack Wills pillow | 5. Jonathan Adler pillow | 6. Dwell Studio pillow | 7. Trina Turk pillow

I really love pillows. It may or may not be a serious problem. The first thing I shop for is always the pillows. They can provide a bright pop of color and pattern, and they can be easily changed with your mood.

Nothing better than having to wade through piles of pillows to lay on your bed. This is living at its finest, people.

Rend Collective Experiment

June 25, 2013

I love new and exciting music. I also love Jesus. Finding that balance can sometimes become a challenge when most people equate Christian music with "Bringing in the Sheaves". (Trust me, I have nothing against the song, but I will say that it is not exactly the most perky tune out there.)

The other day I was introduced to (not personally, just via Youtube) the band Rend Collective Experiment. They are so fun and spunky when they play. Plus, I had a running tally of hipster influences as it was playing. Always a great bonus.

Just Checking In

June 19, 2013

I am having a wonderful time on my much-needed vacation. I've been soaking up the sun, eating way too much food, and relaxing. Even though plane rides, missing suitcases (oh yeah) and having a huge frizzball for hair isn't great, everything is going very well. Nothing better than a vacay.

I'll be back to reality on Tuesday the 24th!

Leaving on a Jet Plane

June 14, 2013

I am going on a little vacation, but will be back in business very soon. In the meantime, how about taking a trip of your own through the archives?

I also wanted to say thanks to all of you for your lovely comments. They really do make my day.

Have a wonderful week!

Painted Brick

June 13, 2013

I love white brick, especially on a whole wall. It just gives lightness and brightness to a space, making it look airy and breezy. Plus anything brick boosts the "urban loft" feel.

A white wall gives you a perfectly blank canvas to add in accents and colors. Like I've said before, if you don't use white as a design element, your space will feel disjointed and super color happy. (Sometimes good, most times bad.) You need the balance between color and neutrals to have an all over cohesive design.

Don't Fear Tomorrow

June 12, 2013

Sometimes you can be afraid of the future. Maybe you have something going on in a few days or weeks that has been filling you with dread. Whatever it is, we all have stuff going on in our lives.

As a Christian, I know that I can have peace about the future. God is always with me, no matter where I am. Matthew 28:20 says "And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." That's a promise.

I am so grateful for the protection given by God. There are so many times where I have been fearful but then felt completely safe and secure. Don't worry about tomorrow; God's got it all under control.

In Black and White

June 11, 2013

I really am a sucker for vintage photos. Seriously, I can't tell you how many hours I have spent perusing through Etsy for them. There is such a beauty about them; it's like a moment caught in time. (Put that on a bumper sticker, why don't ya?)

But the photos nearest and dearest to my heart are fashion shots. Something about vintage clothes is super interesting to me. Every piece has a story that is unique. Listen to me sounding like a history buff. Applause please.

Five Loves

June 10, 2013

2) Gimme that sparkly satchel!

3) Wow. What a shoe collection!

4) How gorgeous are these pink peonies? Love.

5) To the public: if ever you find yourself going to Paris, please do not hesitate to take a certain stylish girl who could cram herself into a suitcase if the need so arose. (Image source)

I must be feeling French today. But then again, when does that ever stop?

That's Quite A Mani

June 7, 2013

I love interesting manicures. This mani is so easy but looks so pretty! All you need is a bit of tape and a lazy Saturday. When doing manicures like this, I will use washi tape (or paper tape) since it is not too sticky but still separates the colors. If you do use Scotch tape, just stick it on the palm of your hand a few times to take down the adhesiveness. It's very simple to make the design, just use small pieces of tape to section off the areas in the color you are using. (You may have to cut the piece in half lengthwise if it is too thick.)

Lemon Meringue Pie Smores

June 6, 2013

Summer and smores go hand in hand. Seriously, what is better than roasting marshmallows over a bonfire. (Okay, okay, I can think of tons of better things but let's get in the mood, shall we?) I'm not even that wild about the outdoors but the slightest hint of smores drags me out of my air-conditioned bubble.

I love new takes on smores. Like this great idea from Cooking Classy, using lemon curd (whether homemade or store bought) in place of the chocolate. Fresh and light. Her article has tons of different smores filling ideas, like nutella or caramel. Oh yeah baby.

Popcorn

June 5, 2013

Popcorn is so good. It really should be a food group. These beautiful little sculptures by the amazing artist Pae White look so good I could eat them.

I love the gold glaze on the inside. Although I love anything gold, even though it can go classy or brassy. I usually prefer classy.

Lukewarm Living

June 4, 2013

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that you probably don't like your coffee lukewarm. If you ever listen in a line at Starbucks, the orders people spout out are amazing. They can recite an entire paragraph of confusing coffee specifications.  But you never hear anyone order their drink lukewarm.

God's the same way. He loves it when His people are on fire for Him. He wants you to be boiling hot. A person who is on fire for God will go to any measure to get closer. They will be radical for God. No threats from the world can get them to cool down.

Are you hot today?

June Wishlist

June 3, 2013

1. Topshop nail brush set | 2. Topshop sandals | 3. Kate Spade Saturday backpack | 4. Modcloth scarf | 5. Ban.do comb | 6. Illamasqua nail polish in Collide

I am so excited that it is finally summer. (And the livin' is easy.)

I've decided to change up my whole monthly wishlist and do a color theme for that month. June to me is all neon pink and orange. I just might need that bag.

May this month be one to remember!
